Arsenal fans are mourning the end of an era with news that Carl Jenkinson has left the club after almost a decade of loyal, if slightly sporadic, service.

The right-back, who signed from Charlton in 2011, became the Gunners’ longest-serving player when former captain Laurent Koscielny left for Bordeaux on Tuesday (more on that below).

That prestigious mantle lasted roughly 24 hours before Jenkinson himself completed a transfer to Nottingham Forest.

Arsenal fans angered by Laurent Koscielny’s Bordeaux unveiling

Laurent Koscielny has seen his long Arsenal career end in ignominy after suddenly demanding a transfer last month after nine years at the club.

The 33-year-old defender signed for Bordeaux on Tuesday and was unveiled with a pointed shirt-swapping video that incurred the wrath of many an angry Gooner.

From popular skipper to exiled pariah in the space of one short viral video.

If there’s one lesson to be learnt from all this furore, it’s that when it comes to football transfers, it’s probably easiest to just thank your former fans, keep your head down and move on.
