England have been told to ‘get lost’ following their reported interest in Evan Ferguson.

The Brighton striker is a Republic of Ireland international, but has been linked with following Jack Grealish and Declan Rice to the Three Lions fold.

The highly-rated ace actually can’t do that – he’s already made six senior appearances for Ireland and FIFA rules stipulate that players can’t switch international allegiance after three games, whether they be friendlies or competative fixtures.

And that’s good news for Ireland and former striker Clinton Morrison, who says Ferguson can break Robbie Keane’s goal record for the boys in green.

“There is always a fear after what happened with Declan Rice and Jack Grealish, but I think the difference with Evan Ferguson is that he genuinely wants to play after already having six caps,” Morrison told Own The Pitch.

“I don’t think he changes, I think he will stay with Ireland and I think he could get over 100 caps and get really close to Robbie Keane’ goalscoring record as well. I rate him that highly and if he gets anywhere near Keane he will have had a fantastic international career.

“I don’t worry about that, I think Evan Ferguson will stay with Ireland and Gareth Southgate can get lost! He’s got enough good strikers as it is! Let us have our wonder boy and leave him alone, he’s still got three or four years if he wants to get in ahead of Harry Kane!”

Morrison has also tipped the young Irishman to become a £90million player under Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton.

“I think he is a top, top talent and he can go where he wants to be,” added the regular talkSPORT guest.

“At 18 years old, playing in the Premier League, he has got an excellent manager in Roberto De Zerbi who is one of the best and is helping him and he has good players in and around him.

“I think he could become a £90 million player, but I don’t want to put that kind of pressure on him just yet. He should just go out there, play his football and do it with a smile on his face as well.

“He’s playing in the best league, with a top manager and some top players that are there at Brighton.

“But he is a player. You look at him and because of his size you think he is just a lump who will cause problems for defenders with his physicality, but he drops into little pockets, he can link it, he can score goals and his all-round game is brilliant. The future is bright for him and long may it continue.”
