Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick ‘wants to discuss’ a shock transfer swoop for Chelsea forward Timo Werner.
The German is reportedly keen on buying the Blues forward having done so already when he was the sporting director of RB Leipzig.
Given that Chelsea signed him last summer and then signed Romelu Lukaku in the 2021 summer transfer window potentially shows that the club’s hierarchy don’t have much faith in the 25-year-old who has just seven Premier League goals to his name since his arrival.
That has now led to rumours that he could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge and German journalist Christian Falk has reported that Rangnick wants to talk about the possibilty of signing the forward before the beginning of next season.
“TRUE, Ralf Rangnick wants to discuss a Transfer of Timo Werner to @ManUtd in Summer,” Falk said on Twitter.
“Rangnick bought Werner for @RBLeipzig from Stuttgart and pushed his career. Rangnick is also close to @TTuchelofficial of @ChelseaFC.”
Since signing for the Blues in June 2020, things have not exactly gone swimmingly for the German ace.
Whilst he does work hard for the team, Werner has become known for spurning good opportunities.
In the 1-1 draw with Manchester United, the German registered six shots on goal, more efforts than their opponents had for the entire match, and failed to convert any of the chances.
Given that these two clubs are fierce rivals and compete for major honours, it would be a surprise if Chelsea are willing to sell Werner to Man United.
However, as Falk pointed out, Rangnick is close to Tuchel and had a big influence on his career meaning that relationship could prove to be vital if the club are able to secure a deal for Werner.
