Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool are in a ‘rubbish situation’ but has warned fans their situation will take time to improve.
A goalless draw at Chelsea sees the Reds lose ground in the race for the top four, and Reds manager Jurgen Klopp made a number of frank admissions post-match.
Liverpool came into their clash at Stamford Bridge off the back of a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City.
Klopp made six changes to the starting XI to face Chelsea, but saw little to no improvement in the performance level.
Speaking on their line-up on The Sports Bar, talkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara said: “I think he had to make changes though, I don’t know how Liverpool fans felt about that.
“I mean, I thought they were really, really average as a side. I don’t know what’s happened to them as a team, they’ve just lost so much.”
Former Liverpool forward Saunders added: “No part of the team is functioning like it was. It’s just like strange how they can go from being so good to just bang average all of a sudden.”
He then revealed who he thinks Liverpool should sign in the summer: “If I was Klopp now, I’d just go [Jude] Bellingham and [Mason] Mount. Put them straight in that team, I think you’ll see a massive difference.”
Saunders added: “Mount and Bellingham would make Liverpool a better team I think if you sign them both. I like Mount, he’s got a sharp brain, he can anticipate, he gets around the pitch.
“Bellingham has obviously got loads of potential, he’s a bit like Steven Gerrard, he gets into the back four and gets on the end of things.”
Saunders continued: “Klopp, I think, realises he either has to probably leave, or he’s got to sign some top players, the best players. He needs three or four.”
Liverpool will be the happier side leaving Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea having two goals disallowed by VAR.
However, the Reds have now gone winless in four games across all competitions, and Klopp has told fans to remain cautious of a potential rapid turnaround in form.
Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT, he said: “Of course it’s an absolutely rubbish situation that nobody wants to be in but we are in.
“This is not dreamland. Just because I’m Jurgen Klopp it doesn’t mean I don’t have any problems…
“I have no problem with fighting through this. I just know because we do it in public people obviously get annoyed and frustrated about my answers and I cannot change that.
“This is not a quick fix otherwise we would’ve fixed it already. I didn’t lose my football brain overnight if I ever had one.
“This is our situation and we have to deal with it in our way. Some clubs deal with it differently with it and our club wants to do it different. We have to do that, it’s no problem at all. It’s okay, and from here we go.”
