Tottenham Hotspur fan Darren Ambrose would love to see Christian Eriksen re-sign for the club in the summer.

The Danish midfielder’s astonshing return to football after a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 has continued with a marvelous display, and a goal, in Brentford’s stunning 4-1 win over Chelsea.

The Bees snapped up Eriksen, 30, on a free transfer in January after he was released by Inter Milan.

Italy sporting regulations meant he couldn’t continue his career in Serie A as he has had an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD).

He’s proved he can still be a key player in the Premier League and returned to international action with Denmark last week, scoring twice in two games.

His contract with Brentford is up at the end of the season and he may well have a big decision to make on his future considering his immediate impact back in the English top-flight.

And former Premier League star Ambrose would welcome Eriksen back to north London, where he spent six and a half seasons before a transfer to Italy, where he won the Serie A title.

Speaking about the Dane’s future, he said: “He could be loyal to Brentford but it depends on what Christian Eriksen wants, if he wants to show loyalty and he’s enjoying his football and he [might] says ‘right, I’m going to give back to Brentford because they put their trust in me when it looked like no one else was going to’.

“But he’s only 30, I believe, and he might be ambitious and he might think, ‘you know what? I want another crack at the very top’.

“I think there will be top, top teams in for him. [Antonio] Conte has already showed his interest in Eriksen.

“I would love him back at Tottenham, I think that is what we’re missing.”

And not only that, Ambrose reckons, with smart transfer business in the summer, a rejuvenated Tottenham could potentially become title challengers next season.

He later told Drive Time: “I’m going to throw something out here. I’ll probably get ridiculed and laughed at.

“Next season, if Conte stays, [Harry] Kane stays, with [Cristian] Romero and a couple of acquisitions, they will be challenging [for the title].

“Only becausse [Rodrigo] Bentancur has come in, [Dejan] Kulusevski has come in, no one really thought they would hit the ground running as they have, so it shows what kind of player he will attract to the football club.

“Change a couple of players, three or four, maybe five players – he’ll already have his eye on some of them. Brilliant manager. Born winner.

“I’m not saying they are going to win [the title] but challenging more than they are this season.”
