Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling react to England’s Qatar 2022 World Cup draw

Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling have both taken to social media to express their excitement after England discovered their group for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The draw for the winter tournament took place on Friday and revealed that the Three Lions will face USA, Iran and one of either Wales, Scotland or Ukraine.

England will play Iran on the opening day of the tournament – Monday, November 21.

This is the first time the Three Lions will play on the opening day since hosting the World Cup, and winning it, in 1966.

England will then play USA on Friday, November 25 and the play-off side on Tuesday, November 29.

Captain Kane tweeted in reaction: “Always exciting to see who we get in the group!

“Playing on the opening day will be incredible as well.”

Giving his instant reaction after attending the draw in Qatar, manager Gareth Southgate told talkSPORT’s Faye Carruthers: “Well, I’ve sat through about five or six draws now and my conclusion’s always been the same.

“It’s normally been a position where it could be worse, but you just don’t know where the difficult games are gonna come from.

“Of course in terms of rankings we’re seeded, which gives us a bonus as to [avoiding] all the teams in pot one.

“The expectation will be for us to go through and we understand that and we’ve gotta go and make that happen.”
