The contrasting emotions of Harry Kane’s stoppage-time winner were summed up perfectly by Tottenham manager Antonio Conte and Man City boss Pep Guardiola.

In a pulsating match at the Etihad Stadium, the England captain’s header not only inflicted a significant loss to Man City, but in turn boosted Liverpool in the Premier League title chase.

Now Spurs have released their popular ‘Conte Cam’ to give fans an insight into 90 minutes of emotion from their manager.

It was a double for the London side against City and, according to Opta, Chelsea in the 2016/17 season, Manchester United in 2019/20 and Wolves in 2019/20 were the other sides to have taken six points from Guardiola’s City.

Having gone into the game on the back of three straight defeats in the league, few were expecting Spurs to come away with three points at the home of the champions.

For all of City’s chances, domination in possession, and goal threat, they arguably should have won the game.

However, as Guardiola eluded to in his pre-match press conference, the tie was never going to be an easy one against a Tottenham side with a point to prove, and that prediction proved true.

Spurs’ counter-attacking was always a cause for concern, and in the fifth minute of stoppage-time, Kane’s bullet header sent the away side into delirium and, in contrast, Guardiola and co. into despair.

Speaking on Sky Sports, analyst Jamie Carragher summed up the situation perfectly.

“What a performance from Harry Kane, and [Guardiola] can’t believe it, but [Conte] can.

“In fact they both can’t believe it! And this is why football is the greatest game you will ever see!

The timing of Kane’s goal was also further cause of agony for the defending champions.

At 94:25, Kane left it very late to mess with Conte’s heart. In fact, only Michael Owen’s effort for ManUnited in a 4-3 win in September 2009 against City – at 95:27 – was scored later.

Football. Bloody hell.
